Make Your Calendar Work for You

Look at your calendar. Go ahead, open it. This blog will wait.

Now scroll 4 to 6 weeks out. Do you see some open time?

Those empty spots are what I like to call “Change Space.”

You may have told yourself for years you are “too busy,” but the reality is you are not too busy. You are overbooked with commitments that should never have made their way onto your calendar and nonsense that is not a priority.

You can keep going like you are going; it WILL lead to burnout. I guarantee it.

So many people compl…

No Better Time Than NOW

There is a Chinese Proverb that states,
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second best time is now.”
I often think about this proverb and what it means in business. It takes time for anything to establish roots, grow, and succeed. So the sooner you start the journey and cultivation of whatever IT is that you are starting, the sooner you will see growth and be able to reap the fruits of your labor.

Stop telling yourself that now is not the right time or that you need to accomplis…

FOCUS O.N.E.

Priority was never a plural word.

We live in a world where even after we complete something or win an award, the first question we are asked is, “What are you going to do next?”

Aside from the rehearsed and inauthentic answer of “Going to Disneyland!”, we are left with a feeling of unrest as we determine what the next thing is.

In society, a win is not celebrated the way we should. When a team wins a championship they get a parade. When is the last time that you had a parade thrown for accomplishin…

Why You Need an Email Autoresponder

“Bunny, your email autoresponder message might as well be a giant picture of a middle finger.”

This was the comment from one of my colleagues after catching up over lunch.

Intrigued, I responded with a, “How so?”.

My colleague responded by telling me that my voicemail instructs people to email me for normal requests and text for urgent issues, yet when he sent me a text I did not respond for 30 minutes.

I smiled and asked, “Do you remember what you were texting me about? Was it important?”

He laughe…

Not Your Duck

Some of you may have heard this story from me or someone before so if you have hopefully this will be review.

So often in life there are times in which we spend way too much energy and time on other’s problems, only to realize that it is not my problem.

I love hearing this lesson illustrated through the story of the duck. For those of you who have never heard it you are in for a treat.
One day a man opens his door to see his neighbor there in a panic holding a glass vase with a duck stuck inside. …

The Sales Swing

Happy 1st Day of Spring Training!  Who is excited?!?

Anyone who has followed the blog for any period of time is painfully aware that I'm a baseball fan.

I started playing softball at the age of four and have many fond memories. Similar to my passion for horses, I believe that the sport ties into lessons for my business and in my personal life. The importance of relying on a team, taking big goals and breaking them down step-by-step, how to play good defense as well good offense, how to swing for t…

3 Team Building Mistakes to Avoid

What do you think of when you hear the words “Team Building”?

Beers and bowling or go carts and a team dinner. Most companies attempt to engage in a meaningful team building activity because it is what they believe they should be doing and that it will bring cohesion and engagement among their staff and employees.

The right form of team building will do these things, the wrong kind of team building will feel like a waste of time and not be taken seriously by your employees. You could run the risk …

Share Your Story

When you visit a company’s website, do you click on the “about us” tab?

It’s common to see a history of the business, mission statement and names of the owners or managers.

But how often do you actually see the story of the meaning of the business and owner?

What is lacking in our lives and in our businesses today is the true story that started the business. The founder’s personal story. Think about how often we see an image of Walt Disney or his quotes used to explain Disney's culture, mission and…

How to Cash in on a Snow Day

Snow days can suck when you work from home or have young children. School gets cancelled (for weeks it feels like) and you are stuck home entertaining or turning a TV on all day as you try to get some sense of sanity and productivity. Here are my best tips to cash in on the snowy obstacles of winter:

#1 Call your Clients

Most likely you have a captive audience on this day. Everyone is either stuck at home or at least not being very productive at their office. Having an outside person to talk to …
