May My Normal Life R.I.P.

In case you have not figured it out already, life looks a little different today than it did earlier this year. Somewhere around March 2020, many of us morphed from professionals into teachers, remote workers, therapists, future predictors, and pop tart hoarders, all while trying not to freak the heck out that the entire world was shutting down.

Sometimes, I think about what I would tell my old self if I had the opportunity to call pre-COVID Bunny, circa February 2020. Maybe it would go somethi…

Clarity Break

Back in January, I updated my autoresponder to let everyone know I was taking the month off. I specifically shared that the time away was for me to build an overarching strategic plan for the next year as well as plan ahead for each of my companies for the next three years. Not knowing at the time that just a few months later the whole world would be changing, I returned from this time away feeling refreshed and recharged. Obviously much has changed since then, but I still strongly feel the valu…

Where Is Your Head?

Do you remember the old Superman comics where the only noticeable difference between Clark Kent and Superman was a pair of glasses? Of course, his bright leotard also comes to mind, but all he had to do was hop into a phone booth, and then, despite walking out with the same facial structure, hair, and even the same voice, suddenly no one knew who he was.

I always wondered about this until recently, when my daughter was watching a cartoon where the little girl transforms herself with the use of a…

Vision 3 Years From Now

Vision for ABP in three years

What do I see? Hear?

I see beautiful views out of windows and a lot of people smiling and happy. I see bright photos on hardcover books and lots of light furniture on new floors. I see a warm office with Guinness and one assistant and comfy furniture. A warm big cup of coffee and fresh air and the beach. I hear laughter, keyboard tapping, flights being announced, kids talking to me and my mom. I hear client testimonials and gratitude. I hear a recent interview that I…

Relationships In Business

Who said, “You never have a shortage of money-just relationships?” Maybe I heard it in an audiobook, but I suspect it is left over in my brain from years of watching those with “connections” get ahead in life and business.

As a therapist-turned-consultant, one of my specialties is relationships. While my track record for saving marriages speaks for itself, as a coach, I’ve discovered my skills are equally valuable: I am REALLY good at saving the relationship between owner and business.

But the ow…

Business Lent

Did you grow up Catholic? In case you did not, allow me to give you a quick explanation of the Christian Lenten practice. (This is not the religious definition, so forgive me, Father Murphy.) Lent is a 40-day period that begins Ash Wednesday and ends on Easter. This year, it started on March 6th. Lent is intended as a time of reflection and preparation for Easter; however, it’s most well-known as a time where you give something up or make a sacrifice in your own life in some way. Whether you cho…

Fantastic Beasts... and How They Impact Your Business

While watching the awesome movie Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, my 7-year-old daughter was captivated by a scene featuring an animal that shrinks or grows to match the size of its environment. In the movie, this size-shifting beast has taken over the giant attic of a department store, and the ceiling is in danger of caving in from the weight, threatening the lives of the main protagonists. To save the day, the main character throws a tasty bug into a teapot; the gigantic animal dives i…

Make Your Calendar Work for You

Look at your calendar. Go ahead, open it. This blog will wait.

Now scroll 4 to 6 weeks out. Do you see some open time?

Those empty spots are what I like to call “Change Space.”

You may have told yourself for years you are “too busy,” but the reality is you are not too busy. You are overbooked with commitments that should never have made their way onto your calendar and nonsense that is not a priority.

You can keep going like you are going; it WILL lead to burnout. I guarantee it.

So many people compl…

FOCUS O.N.E.

Priority was never a plural word.

We live in a world where even after we complete something or win an award, the first question we are asked is, “What are you going to do next?”

Aside from the rehearsed and inauthentic answer of “Going to Disneyland!”, we are left with a feeling of unrest as we determine what the next thing is.

In society, a win is not celebrated the way we should. When a team wins a championship they get a parade. When is the last time that you had a parade thrown for accomplishin…
